Location: Mainstay
301 West 5th Street

Never fear. Take back your pride by proving you have the ugliest Christmas Sweater at AIGA’s and Ad2′s Holiday Ugly Sweater Contest at Mainstay in downtown Cincinnati. Mainstay’s live music stage will be rockin’ while you enjoy drink specials and as much partying as your fa, la la la la can take. Join us and be merry Thursday, December 15th starting at 6pm. Blind voting for the best sweater will take place until 8pm when we’ll crown this years AIGA UGLY Sweater. If you’re an official winner or not, capture your winning grin in this years photo booth. Sure to be a crowd pleaser

$10 Entry or a dontation of a toy will gain you entry to this holiday party. Toy donations go towards Josh Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that no seriously ill child goes through a hospitalization without the critical support of someone who cares for them when a parent or family member cannot be there when they need them the most. At any given time, an average of 25+ critically ill children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center are without the support of a family that is so critical to their care and healing. What’s the Big Idea?

October 26th, 2011

On October 25th, Nathan Dye, Senior Writer at Leapfrog Interactive, talked to us about idea formulation from a creative standpoint in his presentation “What’s the Big Idea?”. As a senior level copywriter, he has held positions at a handful of agencies around town. With this in mind – he learned quickly that having a big and powerful idea often time comes with “thinking small”. He challenged us to think of all the big campaigns with quick, witty headlines “Just do it.” “Think Small.” Nathan says his success as a writer comes from being straight forward with the premise of his ideas. While you may have a full campaign thought completely out – it may be more beneficial to think of the campaign in a condensed version – chop it down to 4 – 7 words and try to sell THAT idea to the client. Everything else will fall into place afterwards!

When we asked what he felt makes a creative most successful – his response was simple: “Appreciate the other person’s talents” “Be able to think visually if you’re a writer and think with words if you’re a designer.”

Nathan’s direct answers gave us all great insight and we appreciated him coming out and talking with us!

Legal Issues in Mobile and Gamification at Digital Non Conference

September 8th, 2011

As new platforms and techniques are adopted to reach customers and increase consumer involvement, potential legal issues should always be considered to keep advertisers (and their clients) out of hot water.  At the upcoming Digital Non Conference, a panel of experienced Intellectual Property attorneys will discuss legal issues relating to the increasing gamification of advertising campaigns in the digital and mobile environments.  Topics will include how patents, trademarks, copyrights, privacy law, and the right of publicity can create both opportunities and risks for marketers in the mobile and gamified realms.

The panel will include Karen Gaunt (Partner, Wood Herron & Evans LLP), Tom Humphrey (Co-Founder of mobile app developer Versaries, LLC and Partner, Wood Herron & Evans LLP), and Sean Owens (Chair of Ad2 Cincinnati’s Government Relations Committee and Associate, Wood Herron & Evans LLP).  Scheduled to take place at 1:45pm on Wednesday, September 14th, at Lunar Lounge (corner of 5th and Elm), more information is available at digitalcincinnati.org.

This panel discussion is brought to you in part by Ad2 Cincinnati’s Government Relations Committee.  If you would like to get involved and help keep Ad2 Cincinnati and its members on the right side of The Man, contact Sean at sowens@whepatent.com.

Average National Salarys

August 31st, 2011

Ever wonder where your salary lies in comparison to others? My Alma Mater sent this to me this morning, and I felt it would be very relevant to the “transitioning” and even the employed young professionals in our business. Highlighted in red are degrees that are within the Advertising, Marketing, and Communications realm. Remember, these are nation wide averages, so you have to keep in mind the inflated numbers coming from our coastal cities. I hope this helps!

Meet the Boards Recap

August 17th, 2011

Meet the Boards

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out to our 1st Annual Meet the Boards Happy Hour last night!

This year we decided to host the event at Mainstay Rock Bar, a cool dive on the far west end of 5th Street. We rock n’ rolled the night away with attendance at 45! We had happy hour pricing and appetizers available to all attendees, and definitely kept the bartender busy for the evening.

The majority of both AdClub and Ad2’s boards were there and it allowed everyone the chance to get to know each other in a fun, comfortable setting. I would have to say that the event was a success – and will be continued for years to come!

Weren’t able to grab the card of a Board Member you talked to? Send a note to our e-mail address (ad2cincy@gmail.com) and we’ll see if we can help you track them down… hopefully so you can get involved in future Ad2/AdClub events!

Best Wishes,

Kerri Rainbolt
